There could be no better way to begin this journal than by sharing some deeply humbling news: Heathcote General Trader has been included in the beautiful new interiors book Cocoon by the celebrated UK stylist and author, Ali Heath.
This thoughtful, atmospheric book explores the art of creating sanctuary at home with spaces that comfort, inspire and allow us to retreat from the world in meaningful ways. Its pages are filled with poetic palettes, textured layers and timeless styling from homes around the globe.
Nestled among the final pages is a section titled Sources I Love, which is a curated list of shops and makers that resonate with Ali’s slow-living, soulful aesthetic. To find Heathcote General Trader listed here, alongside some of the most beautiful stores from around the world, is both surreal and heartening.
This little country store was built from a deep belief in old-fashioned retail, tactile living and the quiet joy of things well made. To be noticed by someone whose work I admire so much is not only a personal joy it feels like a quiet affirmation that this slower path is worth it.
If you have the chance to hold Cocoon in your hands, I highly recommend it. The imagery is transporting, the writing thoughtful and the entire book feels like a gentle exhale.
